"Holding back the years" ist eine Multi-Kanal Video- und Rauminstallation von Gregor Schuster. Er hat alle Weihnachten seit seiner Geburt 1989 mithilfe des Videoarchivs seiner Familie rekonstruiert. Statt die Filme linear anzuordnen, zeigt er sie simultan in einem Raum. So entsteht ein Zeit-Bild eines Millenials - oder ein Familienporträt, welches die mediale Transformation von VHS Video zum Digitalen dokumentiert. Es stellt Fragen nach dem Sinn von Ritualen, dem Wandel der Gesellschaft und der Vergänglichkeit des Seins.

"Holding back the years" is a multi-channel video and spatial installation by Gregor Schuster. He has reconstructed every Christmas since his birth in 1989 with the help of his family's video archive. Instead of arranging the films linearly, he shows them simultaneously in one room. The result is a time-image of a millennial's - or a family portrait that documents the media transformation from VHS video to digital. It raises questions about the meaning of rituals, the transformation of society and the transience of existence.
